I think we can begin by incorporating interactive tools such as blogger, remind101, socrative, poll everywhere, and multiple google apps with our students. I suggest starting one day a month or every other week. Then start using it weekly, and eventually daily as part of your class.
I agree with your statements. I also like that when I take online courses, some of the professors have requirements about how many times we need to respond to each other when I am taking an all online class. I used to hate it. But now, I am getting to know everyone so much better from knowing the responses and being "forced" to respond to so many different people. It is definitely building community!
